The Jungfrau Region is nestled in a pristine and unique alpine landscape. Murren, the beautiful car-free village in the Bernese Oberland, lies at 1650 m and is regarded as the highest, permanently inhabited village in the Canton of Berne. It is situated on a sunny terrace high above the geologically significant Lauterbrunnen valley. Murren is a former Walser settlement and belongs to the municipality of Lauterbrunnen. The mountain village has currently a population of 350 residents.
Perfectly groomed slopes and an abundance of snow enhance the experience for skiers and snowboarders in the Murren – Schilthorn ski resort. Non-skiers enjoy the well-maintained winter hiking trails leading through the impressive mountain world. Furthermore, the outdoor skating rink offers a wide range of activities like curling and ice skating in front of the imposing mountain scenery.
Properly marked trails lead hikers past numerous waterfalls and other places of interest. The highly popular 'via ferrata' trail (fixed rope walk and climb) fascinates with stunning views along the steep rock's face and the 80 metre-long Nepalese bridge.
After a full day of activities, an indoor pool and sauna await you in the village at the Alpine Sports Centre - or simply relax and enjoy the peaceful ambiance at dusk on the restaurant's sunny terrace.
